- What is an assisted living facility?
An assisted living facility (ALF) is any building or dwelling which provides housing, meals, and one or more personal services for a period exceeding 24 hours to more than two adults who are not relatives of the owner/provider. According to the Agency for Health Care Administration, ALFs are “designed to provide personal care services in the least restrictive and most home-like environment.”
- How long has this facility been in operation?
Kozy Kove Assisted Living Facility, Inc. began as an Adult Family Care Home in 2003. It became licensed as an assisted living facility in 2009, and has been in operation ever since.
- Do you have a license?
Yes. As an assisted living facility operating in the state of Florida, we are required to maintain a valid license at all times. We hold a standard ALF license.
- When was your last state inspection? Did you have any deficiencies?
Facilities are required to undergo a state inspection at least every two years. We passed our last state inspection in May of 2017 and had NO DEFICIENCIES.
- How many residents are allowed in your facility?
Our facility is licensed for 6 residents, however we prefer to have no more than 5 residents at a time in order to maintain a higher standard of care.
- Who provides care in your facility?
Two licensed nurses provide direct care to our residents with the assistance of certified nurse’s aides (CNAs).
- How much does this cost?
Unlike most assisted living facilities, our services can most closely be compared to having a private nurse providing personal care at home. For this reason, we determine our rates by charging an hourly fee for 24-hour care. Our base rate is determined by the type of room accommodation desired. Our rates start at $5/hour.
- What is included in the base room rate?
Our base rate includes a furnished private room, electricity, water, central air conditioning, basic cable TV (packages can be upgraded for an additional fee), high speed internet, three meals per day from a dietitian-designed menu, snacks and refreshments as desired, daily recreational activities, personal care by licensed nurses with the assistance of certified nurse’s aides, medication management, daily housekeeping, weekly laundry service, arrangement of transportation, weekly grounds maintenance, availability of a monthly visiting physician service, availability of visiting specialty physicians as needed (ex: podiatrist, dermatologist), and availability of monthly medication delivery.
- How does the Level of Assistance fee schedule work?
In order to ensure we have adequate staff to provide our residents with the level of care needed, we must match the level of assistance required with the monthly rate charged. Our fee schedule outlines the cost of care based on the level of personal care services needed.
- What personal care services are included in each level?
Level 1 includes supervision or assistance with ambulation, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, making phone calls, and self-administration of medications.
Level 2 includes all personal care services in Level 1 plus assistance with incontinence, administration of medication, assistance with eating, and increased supervision for wandering during the day
Level 3 includes all personal care services in Levels 1 & 2 plus overnight toileting/incontinence assistance, two caregivers for ADLs, increased supervision for wandering at night, coordination of hospice services
Please note: We are NOT responsible for handling resident personal, legal or financial affairs. We are NOT responsible for resident’s personal supplies, such as lotions, incontinence pads, etc.
- Do you increase your rates on a yearly basis?
Our initial rate is determined by matching the type of room accommodation desired with the level of assistance required for the resident. As residents begin to decline and require a higher level of care, we will charge an additional $1 – $2/hour depending on the level needed. Additionally, in order to keep up with inflation we increase our rates by $100 every 2 years of residency.
- Does your facility have a specialty license?
No. Kozy Kove Assisted Living Facility holds a standard ALF license. We are NOT allowed to provide skilled nursing services to our residents. Residents who require these services are welcome to contract with one of our preferred home health agencies or one of their choosing.
- What happens when a resident begins to severely decline?
Residents of Kozy Kove Assisted Living Facility, Inc. are welcome to remain at the facility until the end of life. However, as an ALF with a standard license we are NOT licensed to provide skilled nursing services and our residents should meet certain criteria for continued residency. The state of Florida allows residents to remain in an assisted living facility under different circumstances if the resident and facility administrator agree to coordinate with hospice services to render needed care and monitoring (58A-5.0181(4), F.A.C.).
- Can I share a room? Do you have semi-private rooms available?
In order to give each of our residents the luxury experience they desire, we prefer to offer private rooms. However, we love for family or friends, such as a husband and wife team, to room together when desired. We do also occasionally have semi-private options available. Contact us to inquire about availability and rates.
- Can I bring my pets?
We can accommodate pets for an additional fee. We only allow pets that are well trained, quiet and do not otherwise disturb other residents (ex: allergies). There will be additional fees if staff members are required to care for pets.
